Frederick William D’Hooghe

Frederick was born in 1886 and in the 1911 Census, like most of his siblings, he was still single and living at home at 12 Prospect Street, Radford, Nottingham. He was aged 24 and his trade was as a Leather Dresser.

In a Nottingham Trade Directory for 1916, Frederick is running a newsagents business at 24 Lincoln Street, Old Basford, Nottingham.

Frederick’s Service Record has not survived but I note that on his Medal Index Card (MIC) and in the Durham Light Infantry Medal Rolls, that he was only awarded the British War Medal.

Therefore, it is my belief that Frederick would have been a 1918 conscript and drafted to the 1st Battalion Durham Light Infantry as Private 64109, and that the war ended before he saw any overseas service, therefore, making him ineligible for the Victory Medal.

Frederick was living at 27 Chalfont Drive, Western Boulevard, Nottingham when he died on August 30th 1937 aged 51.
