Are you a collector of Great War memorabilia and ephemera? Medals, weapons and uniform items are all eagerly sought by collectors, but for me, it is books (original unit histories and memoirs) and unique items with some provenance.
Today, I had the great fortune to win the bidding at an auction for a highly decorated Hotchkiss .303 ammunition box from a WW1 tank. The lid of the metal box has been beautifully painted by an ex-member of the Tank Corps and shows the regimental badge along with the Tank Corps battle honours.
I believe the previous owner has passed away and I am now the very fortunate owner of this stunning piece of war art, and with the original tanks all being designed and built in Lincoln, the box will form a special part of my collection.
You will be able to view this wonderful piece at the Trench Lincs stand at Woodhall Spa show on Sunday 18th May.
